Welcome to LANPARTY2000.COM

This is a small retro LAN party hosted at my house for people who still enjoy the golden era of PC multiplayer gaming. We get together quarterly to play classic LAN games from roughly 1995 to 2005, hang out, and enjoy an old-school local network setup without online matchmaking, subscriptions, or modern bloat.

What this is

LANPARTY2000 is a casual house LAN party built around classic PC games and the kind of multiplayer sessions that used to happen in basements, garages, and living rooms. The focus is on simple fun, low friction, and retro competitive chaos.

All games are played locally over the network on laptops that are provided at the event, so nobody has to bring a gaming rig, monitor, or extra hardware. Just show up ready to play.

Games we play

The game list rotates, but the overall theme stays in the late 90s to early 2000s and lean toward the First Person Shooter (FPS) genres. Expect classics such as:

  • Doom
  • Quakeworld
  • Quake II
  • Quake III Arena and mods (ET, OSP, etc.)
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstien
  • Counter-Strike
  • Unreal Tournament
  • Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault
  • Battlefield: 1942
  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

Some sessions are competitive, some are co-op, and some are just for the fun of revisiting games that were built for LAN play from the start.

Why we do it

The point is to recreate the feel of the original LAN era: being in the same room, hearing everyone react in real time, and playing games that were designed around direct local multiplayer. It is part nostalgia, part social event, and part excuse to revisit a great period of PC gaming history.

It is also easier than modern online gaming. No patches the size of a hard drive, no accounts to create, and no mystery voice in the lobby. Just eight people, a local network, and some excellent old games.

Event details

  • The LAN party happens the 1st Saturday of every even numbered month.
  • It is held at my house.
  • All laptops are provided.
  • Maximum capacity is 8 players.

Because there are only 8 spots, the group stays small, easy to manage, and focused on actually playing rather than organizing a huge event.
